Opening FRIDA Book Cafe has been an incredible journey filled with surprises, both delightful and challenging. Here are five things that caught me off guard:
1. The Overwhelming Support from Local Businesses
One of the most heartwarming surprises was the outpouring of support and best wishes from other local businesses. From the moment we announced our plans, neighboring shop owners and entrepreneurs offered advice, encouragement, and even helped spread the word. This sense of community and camaraderie was beyond anything I expected and has made the journey all the more rewarding.
2. The Challenge of Perfecting Cappuccino Milk
As someone who enjoys a good cappuccino, I never realized how difficult it is to foam decent milk, especially with our big, fancy Italian coffee machine. Despite its advanced features, getting the milk texture just right requires a lot of practice and precision. It’s been a humbling learning curve, but also an exciting challenge to master the art of coffee-making.
3. The Frequent Trips to HANOS Wholesaler
I didn't anticipate how many trips to the HANOS wholesaler would be necessary to keep our cafe stocked with food and drinks. From fresh produce to specialty items, it seems like there’s always something we need to replenish. These trips are now a regular part of our routine, and while they can be exhausting, they’re also a vital part of ensuring we offer the best to our customers.
4. The Wonderful Colleagues
The people I work with have been a wonderful surprise. Each member of the FRIDA team brings unique skills, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude that has helped create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the cafe. Their dedication and passion for what we do make every day enjoyable and fulfilling.
5. The Sweet Embrace from Customers and Fans
Lastly, the sweetest surprise has been the embrace from our customers and fans. The kind words, repeat visits, and genuine excitement for FRIDA have been incredibly encouraging. It’s a joy to see people enjoying the space we’ve created, whether they’re diving into a new book, savoring a cappuccino, or simply relaxing with friends. This support fuels our passion and makes all the hard work worthwhile.
