Introducing FRIDA: Where Community, Creativity, and Culture Collide

Introducing FRIDA: Where Community, Creativity, and Culture Collide

Hello there, fellow art aficionados, bookworms, and friends,

Let me take you on a journey into the heart of why FRIDA came to be and why it's so much more than just a place to buy books or sip coffee.

Fourteen years ago, I settled in Enschede, my Dutch roots grounding me in this beautiful city. But despite its charm, I missed the vibrant international vibe I'd experienced elsewhere. Back in high school, my friend Linda and I dreamed of owning a cozy bookstore, where we could lose ourselves in books and coffee, regardless of whether customers showed up.

Fast forward to the pandemic, where doubts about my career as an art historian and museum director crept in. The administrative grind left me yearning for a more fulfilling outlet for my creativity.

Enter FRIDA—a blend of bohemian bookshop and artsy café, with a twist. It's not just about selling books; it's about building a community that supports artists, writers, and marginalized voices. But to make FRIDA a reality, I needed help.

That's where crowdfunding came in. With the support of generous souls, we've raised €41,300 and counting. FRIDA is on the brink of becoming a place where creativity knows no bounds and everyone feels welcome.

So why FRIDA? Because it's a celebration of human resilience, diversity, and hope. Join us as we embark on this journey together, weaving stories, igniting imaginations, and building a community where everyone feels valued.

With gratitude and excitement,

Gemma Boon
